Distance from nearby objects to the pole Make sure that you do not interfere with furniture and interior design (poles, niches, corners). It should be noted that if a mirror is installed near the pole, then the distance to it should be greater than for other objects. Characteristics of the ceiling. Avoidance of mounting “into the void” The ceiling factor is not taken into account by many at all, which subsequently leads to certain problems. Suppose you have a regular concrete ceiling. The ceiling consists of several plates. Do not mount the pole at the place of joining of plates (seam). There is often no flat horizontal surface.
Concrete floor slabs contain voids and iron reinforcement. Getting into voids is often impossible. If you find yourself in a void, then this place is vulnerable. This is especially critical for small diameter flanges (pole supports) that are used by individual manufacturers. They, knowing about the installation problem, simply write that “the ceiling must be strong.” Yes, the small upper flanges are beautiful, but how do you know that you have exactly that “strong ceiling”. Stripline has in practice encountered the problem of upper flanges when three or even four mounts fall into the void. The flange will hold on to this, but as soon as work on the pole begins, there will be a risk of pulling out the mount.
As a rule, the diameter of the voids in the concrete slab is 15-16 cm. Therefore, flanges of this or a smaller diameter are a lottery: how lucky you are during installation. Stripline uses the same diameter of the upper flanges for all pole models – 19 cm, which will not allow to pull out the pole and looks aesthetically good both on poles for home and on poles for dance schools.
The second point in choosing a pole mounting location is its horizontal position. If the ceiling is not horizontal, then this may affect the operation of bearings and dynamic poles. They can spin poorly, and eventually fail. If your ceiling has such a problem, then when installing the upper flange under it, it is necessary to install a gasket and use a level to check horizontalness.
With the floor, as a rule, the least problems during installation. If you chose the poles of the Universal series, then you don’t have to worry about the field at all. In the case of sex, you need to pay attention to two points:
– Your floor bends. This happens when the floor is installed on the logs, or the floor closes some hole that you simply don’t know about (which happens in commercial premises). Then you need to determine the hardest place, otherwise, when you will burst the pole, he will bend the floor all the time.
– Your floor has a very slippery finish. In this case, you just need to insert a small pin into the lower support, with a diameter of 1 cm and make a hole in the floor. Then your pole will definitely not “run away”. Mounting the pole fully to the floor is not necessary.
UPPER FLANGE INSTALLATION
The upper flange (pole support) in the Universal, Studio pole series is fixed to the ceiling with 4 anchor bolts. It would seem nothing complicated. In fact, there is nothing complicated, you just need to know some nuances.
Installing a pole on a concrete ceiling is the easiest option. To select a location, see Part 1 Choosing a Pole Mounting Location. Decided on the place, make the first hole. The main thing is not to get into the reinforcement or the void in the slab. If you find yourself in a void, then the main thing is that there are 1-2 such fasteners, and the rest fall into solid concrete.
Installation of a pole if there is drywall on the ceiling
With this option, a hole with a diameter of 19 cm (diameter of the upper flange) must be cut out in drywall. Make sure that there are no metal rails at the installation site under the drywall. To do this, simply tap the ceiling. After mounting the flange, the hole in the drywall can not be closed, or you can buy a decorative cover used when installing the fixtures, make a hole in it for the diameter of the pipe and thus close the hole beautifully.
Pole installation if you have a suspended ceiling
Many are afraid that they already have a stretch ceiling. How to be This is actually not a problem. When cutting holes for the upper flange, you stick a plastic ring that will hold the ceiling fabric. By installing the ring you make a hole in the fabric. The principle of the installation here is similar to the installation of spotlights. Inform that you have a stretch ceiling and we will put you a plastic ring in the pole kit.
Installation of the pole in old rooms where the shingle is on the ceiling
In such a ceiling there is no sufficiently strong foundation. Therefore, before attaching the flange, it is necessary to fix a strong wide base under the flange to the ceiling. The easiest option is a piece of chipboard. Next, fasten the flange to the chipboard and the pole will stand firmly.
Installing a pole on a wooden ceiling
This option may not be difficult if there is a beam under the wood paneling, then the upper pole flange must be fixed to the ceiling in this place.
Armstrong Ceiling Pole Installation
As a rule, Armstrong ceilings hide some structures: ventilation, wires, beams. Therefore, before ordering a pole, you need to move the Armstrong tile and see what is under it. Having chosen a convenient place and installing the pole, the plate itself can not be put in place, but you can just make a small hole in it through which the pole pipe will pass. If under Armstrong there is a very large distance to the “real” ceiling, then, in this case, Stripline uses various designs that are attached to the concrete ceiling. And already to them, the pole is installed. In each case, the design option may be an individual.
PIPE CUTTING UNDER ROOM HEIGHT
Poles can be sent to the customer already cut off at the desired height at the factory. In some cases, it is impossible to determine the exact height at the time of order. For example, there is a repair in the room. Then the pipe leaves with a margin.
The pole pipe is cut off by a grinder (angle grinder, angle grinder). The formula for calculating the length of the pipe is indicated in the instructions for the specific model. The cut plane must be perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. After cutting, the pipe end must be filed. The operation of cutting the pipe is simple. It is better to carry it out in the corridor or even outside the apartment, as the smell of smoke will appear in the process.
INSTALLING THE LOWER FLANGE
There is a persistent misconception that poles must be attached to the floor. In our opinion, this misconception is due to the fact that for certain manufacturers pole supports are made of small diameter for the purpose of aesthetics, or simply to save material costs. Poles with small supports in diameter, of course, must be attached to the floor and ceiling, otherwise, they will simply fall.
If the pole supports are made of sufficient width, then according to our many years of experience, it is enough to fix the upper support on the ceiling, while the lower support can easily rest on the floor and snuggle up to it due to the unwinding of the spacer mechanism. Believe me, fixing the support to the floor is necessary only in very limited cases! Consider these cases:
You just know that you do not plan to remove the pole at all
For example, you have a half-dance dance school and you do not conduct other classes that poles may interfere with. Indeed, in this case, you can once set the pole and forget. Again, you can simply install the pole without drilling the floor, and no longer touch. That is, this reason is conditional. If the pole is not removable, then you can mount it on the floor, or you can not mount it.
You have a room height of more than 3.5 meters
This is a good reason. Practice shows that starting from this height, it is really better to fix the pole to the floor, since any pipe bends, and even more so at this height. And during operation, the force of the spacer due to bending of the pipe will weaken, and the pole can go to the side. Again, do not be afraid. If your upper flange is fixed to the ceiling, then the lower support will most likely move a little to the side, and you will immediately stop training, but the pole will not fall.
You have a slippery floor
This is also a good reason. Even if you have a pole for the house, that is, its height is small, but your floor resembles an ice rink, then you need to fix the bottom flange. But there is a pleasant solution. Poles for home or dance schools with room heights up to 3.5 meters can be mounted on the floor with a pin. What is a pin is a small cylinder, 2 cm high and 8 mm in diameter, which is inserted into the lower support of the poles on one side and the other in a small hole in the floor. Remove the pole and you have a small hole in the floor. Drilling more holes for anchor bolts is not worth it.
